This article refers to the individual song and not the 3 song medley. If you're looking for that you can find it as The Floor Show.

"Don't Dream It, Be It" is a song from theatrical and cinematographic productions of The Rocky Horror Show since 1973 to this day, including the 1975 original film, the 2015 tribute production celebrating 40 years, and the 2016 reimagining film. Music and lyrics were composed by Richard O'Brien back in 1972 while the original musical arrangements are from Richard Hartley.

It was originally performed by Tim Curry in the original 1973 stage production, the 1974 Roxy production in Los Angeles, the 1975 original Broadway production, and the 1975 original film with a spoken verse by Paddy O'Hagan, Meat Loaf, and Jonathan Adams, respectively. It was also performed by Reg Livermore in the 1974 Australian production, by Tim McInnerny in the 1990 West End Revival, by Tom Hewitt in the 2001 Broadway Revival, and by Laverne Cox in the 2016 reimagining TV film, with a spoken verse by David Cameron, Gordon Kennedy, Lea DeLaria, and Ben Vereen, respectively.

As mentioned above, this song is part of a 3 song medley called "The Floor Show", along with Rose Tint My World and Wild and Untamed Thing.

Context

Continuing with the floor show, Dr. Frank-N-Furter performs this song being accompanied in the harmonies by Columbia, Rocky Horror, Brad Majors, and Janet Weiss. Near the end, Dr. Scott tries to get out of his current state of mind, but it's useless.

  • Lyrics from the 2015 individual remastered version of the 1975 original film song

Frank-N-Furter:
Whatever happened to Fay Wray?
That delicate satin draped frame
As it clung to her thigh, how I started to cry
Cause I wanted to be dressed just the same

Give yourself over to absolute pleasure
Swim the warm waters of sins of the flesh
Erotic nightmares beyond any measure
And sensual daydreams to treasure forever
Can't you just see it? Oh-oh-oh

Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it

Frank and company:
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it

Frank-N-Furter and company (Dr. Scott):
Don't dream it (We've got to get out of this trap), be it
(Before this decadence) Don't dream it (Saps our wills), be it
(I've got to be strong) Don't dream it (And try to hang on), be it
(Or else my mind) Don't dream it (May well snap), be it
(Und my life will be lived) Don't dream it (For the thrills...), be it
Don't dream it, be it

Brad:
It's beyond me, help me Mommy

Janet:
God bless Lily St. Cyr...
