"Over At the Frankenstein Place" is a song from theatrical and cinematographic productions of The Rocky Horror Show since 1973 to this day, including the 1975 original film, the 2015 tribute production celebrating 40 years, and the 2016 reimagining film. Music and lyrics were composed by Richard O'Brien back in 1972 while the original musical arrangements are from Richard Hartley. This is one of the seven songs that appear in every important soundtrack of Rocky Horror productions.

It was originally performed by Christopher Malcolm, Julie Covington, and Richard O'Brien in the original 1973 stage production, by Bill Miller and Abigale Haness with Bruce Scott in the 1974 Roxy production in Los Angeles and with Richard O'Brien in the original Broadway production, by John Paramor, Jane Harders, and Sal Sharah in the 1974 Australian production, by Barry Bostwick, Susan Sarandon and Richard O'Brien in the 1975 original film, by Adrian Edmondson, Gina Bellman, and Edward Tudor-Pole in the 1990 West End Revival, by Jarrod Emick, Alice Ripley, and Raúl Esparza in the 2001 Broadway Revival, by Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, and Chris Colfer in the 2010 Glee episode, and by Ryan McCartan, Victoria Justice, and Reeve Carney in the 2016 reimagining TV film.

Context

Brad Majors and Janet Weiss set out on a trip to visit their former tutor Dr. Scott, but on the way the car got a flat tire and they had to stop. Brad remembers that a few miles ago they passed a castle and both decide to get out of the car and go there to try to find some help.

Lyrics

  • Lyrics from the 1973 original London stage production:

Janet:
In the velvet darkness of the blackest night
Burning bright, there's a guiding star
No matter what or who, who you are

Brad y Janet (company):
There’s a light (Over at the Frankenstein Place)
There’s a light (Burning in the fireplace)

Janet:
There’s a light, light...
In the darkness of everybody’s life

Brad:
I can see the flag fly
I can see the rain
Just the same - there has got to be
Something better here - for, you and me

Brad y Janet (company):
There’s a light (Over at the Frankenstein Place)
There’s a light (Burning in the fireplace)

Brad:
There’s a light, light...
In the darkness of everybody’s life

Riff Raff:
The darkness must go
Down the river of nights dreaming
Flow morphia slow let the sun and light
Come streaming into my life
Into my life

Brad y Janet (company):
There’s a light (Over at the Frankenstein Place)
There’s a light (Burning in the fireplace)

Brad, Janet, and company:
There’s a light, light...

Brad y Janet:
In the darkness of everybody’s life
